Charlie Partridge Out at FAU

Earlier this week Florida Atlantic University dismissed head football coach Charlie Partridge.  Partridge leaves after finishing at 9-27 overall during his three years at the helm of the Owls football program.

Below is a chart of offense, defense and total production of the Florida Atlantic University Owls football program during Partridge's tenure as head football coach, along with who would be the lowest ranked team during this time period (in purple) and the average team (sky blue).   As you may notice, FAU has been below average under Partridge's tenure. All rankings in this blog come from my Complex Invasion College Football Production Model.  More details about the program under Partridge are after the chart below, including his contract linked below.

Charlie Partridge (2014 - 2016)

2014
At the end of Partridge's first season as head football coach the Owls finished the regular season at 3-9 and were bowl ineligible playing against an "average" strength of schedule (SOS) as compared to the "league" average SOS.  The Owls best regular season game was a victory (45-38) over #48 Western Kentucky, their worst loss was to #109 ranked Wyoming (19-20).  Overall, the Owls had the #107 ranked team with the #95 ranked offense and the #108 ranked defense from the Complex Invasion College Football Production Model.

2015

FAU finished the regular season overall at 3-9 and were again bowl ineligible while playing against an "easier" strength of schedule (SOS) as compared to the "league" average SOS, meaning that FAU's SOS was between one and two standard deviations above the "league" average SOS.  The Owls best game was their victory over #93 ranked Old Dominion (33-31) and their worst loss (17-27) was to #155 UTEP.  Florida Atlantic had the #101 ranked team in total production with the #116 ranked offense and the #63 ranked defense from the Complex Invasion College Football Production Model.

2016

At the end of the regular season the Owls were 3-9 (and bowl ineligible) playing against an "average" strength of schedule (SOS) as compared to the "league" average SOS, which means that their current strength of schedule was plus or minus one standard deviation of the "league's" average SOS.  The Owls best win was over currently ranked #91 UTEP (35-31) and their worst loss (21-27) was to currently ranked #106 Marshall.  Florida Atlantic at the time of Partridge's departure had the #119 ranked team in total production with the #87 ranked offense and the #124 ranked defense from the Complex Invasion College Football Production Model.
