NCAA Automatic Qualifier IV

The last of the three criteria to establish a seventh automatic qualifier is:

(3) Top 25 Performance Ranking, the number of teams in the top 25 of the final BCS Standings each year, with adjustments to account for differences in the number of members of each conference.

The "Top 25 Performance Rating," will be calculated as follows: Points will be awarded to the conferences based on their teams' finishes in the top 25 of the final BCS Standings each year. Points will be awarded as follows:  teams finishing ranked from 1-6 generate 4 points for each team in the conference; teams finishing ranked 7-12: generate 3 points for each team in the conference; teams finishing ranked 13-18: generate 2 points for each team in the conference; and teams finishing 19-25: generate 1 point for each team in the conference.  The point totals will be adjusted to account for the size of the conference, as follows:  12 or more members have no adjustment; 10 or 11 members are adjusted by 12.5 percent; and 9 or fewer members are adjusted by 25 percent.

So, all I did was to count up the number of teams in each conference that finished 1 - 6 in the final BCS standings, and multiply this by 4, then count up the number of teams in each conference that finished 7 - 12 and multiply by 3, etc., and then adjust by the number of conference members as of December 4, 2011 for each conference for each of the four seasons and I get the following results:

Rank Value Conference
1 54 SEC
2 47.25 Big12
3 41 Big10
4 36 P12
5 32.5 MountainWest
6 20 ACC
7 17.5 BigEast
8 5 Ind
9 3.75 WAC
10 3.375 CUSA
11 1 MidAmerican
12 0 SunBelt
